Ayers > Before picture. Actually I wish I had a real before picture. This is after I removed a 2x4 partition that was put up at the head of the tub and the tile that was added around the tub to make it a "built in" tub and shower. The partition was built to contain a shower head as if it was a modern tub/shower unit. Unfortunately, the shower was just plaster and dry wall with tile. Not exactly water proof. The tiles were falling off and there was some dry rot around the shower head and faucets. Like all old house repair chores, my task to fix the tiles is leading to a bathroom remodel.... Sigh....
Ayers > Another shot of the tub. The green vertical strip was where the partition was installed before I ripped it out.
Ayers > Here you can see where the tile was around the tub when the shower was in service. Basically the tile was glue onto the plaster walls. They were installed in a manner that I would call waterproof. There is not a lot of damage to the walls other than cosmetic that I've been able to find. I have not removed the tub yet so I don't know what I'll find behind it.
Ayers > Toilet and tub. Date on the lid of the toilet is 2/27. Not original orginal but I guess I can live with 1927...
Ayers > Close-up of the plumbing around the tub. Basically it was built using modern fixtures in the dry wall. Right now they are just sort of hanging there. I've removed the feed to the shower head. You can see the where the floor print of the partition was in the vinyl flooring.
Ayers > This is the sink area. The sink in set in a retrofit set of dresser drawers. Not a bad idea in concept but the execution was a bit off. The tile job is so-so and the transitions around the window are real bad. There were some water leaks at some time and the cabinet is damaged. The medicine cabinet is original but the door has been replaced with a large mirror mounted on plywood. If you look at one of the pictures of the toilet, you'll see the original medicine cabinet door mounted above the toilet.
Ayers > Another shot of the sink. The fixture over the sink is new. It was added when they rewired the upstairs bath during that remodel. There was no light fixture here when I started. The wood blinds are also relatively new. I had to rip out the funky wood shutters. Everything that you see here will pretty much go when the remodel progresses. What you are seeing is the old fixtures and layout from an earlier remodel by the P.O.
