Ayers > This is the upstairs bathroom before. I think it was done in the late 60's. The light in the medicine cabinet is powered by an extension cord that goes under the mirror. The sink was set in an old kitchen cabinet.
Ayers > This is another shot before. Yon can see the lovely indoor/outdoor carpet on the floor and the enclosure that they built around the tub (claw foot). The faucet is original but not up to code (faucet outlet is below the tub's water line)
Ayers > Another shot of the tub
Ayers > Here is a shot of where the shower is going. One concession I had to modern life is that I needed a good shower. I decide to place one in the corner of the bathroom. This is the only bathroom I have upstairs for 4 bedrooms
Ayers > Here is a shot of where the new sink is going. I originally wanted to gut the whole room and remove all the existing lath and plaster. I decided agaianst this and kept all the old L&P except where new work was going in. Here they had to do new plumbing and wiring.
Ayers > Another shot of during. The old toilet was here. I relocated it to the left out of this picture. The subfloor was repaired in spots to get ready for the tile. Some of the subfloor joists were stiffened to prevent cracking in the tile after it's laid.
Ayers > Sink wall completed with new subway tile. A pedestal sink and new medicine cabinet will go here. I added a note to the wall behind the medicine cabinet for the next owners that decide the previous owner had bad taste... :-)
Ayers > Here is a shot of the hex tile that I laid for the floor. I made up the pattern in the floor just guessing what I wanted. The tile guys hated me because they had to lay the black tiles one by one except for the smal flowers which is four tiles
Ayers > A shot of the completed bathroom. The tub is a new replacement tub. The old one was pretty shot when they pulled it out. I opted for a new one. The toilet is the original; just don't tell the building code guys.

The shower is somewhat of an oddity to the purists but I added a corner shower with a frameless enclosure. The frameless enclosure lessens the impact of the shower in the corner. I had to have the convenience of an easy step in shower when your up @ 6:00 AM!
